Halloween is just a few days away – and what’s that, you don’t have a costume yet? Don’t worry, we’ve put together some really cheap and easy ways you can get dressed up without needing to stress, order anything that will take days to arrive, or blow your student budget. Read on for our favourite cheap and easy Halloween costume ideas!
Easy ghost costume idea
It couldn’t be easier to be a ghost at Halloween – all you really need is a white bedsheet. You can often pick these up in charity shops, or if not then supermarkets are a great place to look. Throw the sheet over your head (a single sized bedsheet might work best!) and mark out the space for two eyes. Cut these eyes out so you’re left with two holes, and voila – ghost costume. One of the best cheap and easy Halloween costume ideas, and you can always accessories with hats, glasses, belts or bags if you want your ghost to have a little bit of personality…
Wednesday Addams
If you’ve got long dark hair, this is a particularly good cheap and easy Halloween costume. Wear a white shirt under a black dress (charity shops are a great place to find plain white shirts) and style your hair in two plaits. Simple make up with dark lips will finish the look – just be sure to keep your face a bit deadpan for the night…
Black cat
Another super cheap and easy Halloween costume – a good old black cat. You can make cat ears by cutting two triangles out of cardboard and colouring them in with a black permanent marker, then sticking them onto a headband or hair grips. And if you don’t feel like getting crafty, supermarkets and charity shops are bound to have cat ears even if you do only have a few days left to pick some up. Wear an all black outfit, and use black liquid eyeliner to add whiskers to your face. And then you’re good to go!
Devil costume idea
Raid your wardrobe for an all-red outfit (or even just a red top with black trousers or a black skirt, if red head to toe isn’t doable) and make or buy a pair of devil horns – again, you can cut these out from cardboard, like a cereal box, and colour them in red. You’ll need red lipstick too, and that’s pretty much it: a cheap and easy Halloween costume for your spooky night out this weekend.
Zombie
A classic – and one you can make really easily. If you’ve got any clothes you’d otherwise be getting rid of, use those or pick something up from a local charity shop. Then go to town on them with rips, cuts, dirt, fake blood etc. You can literally use soil from outside, and red food colouring. It doesn’t have to cost a lot! Put your messed up clothes on, draw some cuts, bruises and dark under-eye circles on your face, and you’re good to go.
Easy bank robber costume
Slightly left field, but a fun one nevertheless – especially if you own a black and white striped t-shirt! Wear it with black trousers, and make yourself a black eye mask (with eye holes). That’s pretty much all you need, though you can add to the overall effect by carrying a small pouch or tote bag with you that you label with ‘LOOT’ or a pound sign (£). Again this label can be cut out of the back of a cereal box and glued on, which will only take a minute or so to do.
All of these cheap and easy Halloween costumes will be perfect for a spooky night out, and none of them require a lot of money or effort. By raiding charity shops or borrowing clothes from your flatmates, you’ll be able to put something together that works for Halloween without breaking the bank!
