Now that you’re already moved into your student accommodation – or even if you’re thinking ahead to next year – you might be wondering how you can make this space feel like home. Our modern student accommodation in Hereford and Gloucester is bright, cosy and welcoming, but we know you might want to make some changes to make the space feel more like your own. Here are some ideas for you!
Add some gadgets
At home, you might be used to having all the so-called ‘mod cons’. You might miss these at uni, so see if this is something you can incorporate into your new home – look on free-to-you or secondhand sites, and don’t forget to check charity shops or look at shops offering student discount. Some gadgets you might want to add to your student accommodation include:
- A blender or food processor for smoothies and soups
- A stand mixer for baking cakes and other treats
- A bluetooth or smart speaker (be conscious not to disturb your flatmates, though!)
- An air fryer
- A daylight alarm clock
- Wireless charging devices
- A mug warmer to keep your cuppa warm while studying
Bedazzle with your personality
We have a whole blog post about adding your personality to your student bedroom – but in short, choosing some funky bedding and adding a rug, framed photographs and your favourite books, for example, are great ways to make your room feel more like your own.
Invest in better sleep
You might struggle to sleep when you’re still getting used to living away from home, or when you’re stressed about deadlines and so on. Treat yourself to some high-quality pillows, a nice thick duvet and some super soft bedding – that way, you’ll get some of that homey luxury at bedtime.
Think about scents
If you’re used to a particular brand of washing powder, fabric condition, air freshener etc, then see if you can use this at uni too! This way, you’ll make your space smell the same way as your family home does and for many, this can evoke positive emotions and help battle homesickness.
Stock your cupboards
Similarly, when doing your food shop, be sure to add in some home favourites – even if that means splashing out on name brands for certain products, this can be another way to make meal times feel a little bit more like being at home. For a lot of people this can really help!
Your student accommodation, whether you’re staying in halls, private accommodation or a shared house, will be your home while you’re studying. This means it *should* feel homely, so do whatever you can to make your space into somewhere lovely and comfortable.
