Fed up of articles showing you recipes that promise to be quick and easy, but end up needing hours of prep and every piece of cooking equipment you own? We get it, which is why we’ve pulled together 10 quick and easy recipes that actually fulfill that promise…
Cheesy pasta
Simply cook some pasta (opt for wholewheat pasta for extra nutrients), and once cooked stir through some grated cheese. That’s it! If you want some protein, add some sliced ham or some pre-cooked chicken.
Stir fry
The perfect one pan dinner – use a large frying pan or wok, and add in your meat (chicken, pork or beef). When it’s about half cooked, add in some veg; you can buy packs of stir fry vegetables which takes all the work out of it! Finish by adding some noodles and some sauce, and you’re done.
Chicken wraps
Slice a chicken breast and cook it off in fajita seasoning with some peppers and onions – frozen peppers and onions work great here. Once it’s all cooked, pop it in a tortilla wrap with some grated cheese and enjoy.
Tomato pasta
Another basic pasta dish, which you can turn into something delicious. Cook your pasta – again, wholewheat pasta helps add extra nutrients here – and add a tin of chopped tomatoes. Stir through some mixed herbs, add a sprinkling of cheese on top and devour your creation.
Loaded nachos
Pre-heat your oven, then fill a baking dish with tortilla chips. Layer on a tin of mixed beans (Mexican style ones are perfect for this quick and easy student recipe), grated cheese, and jalapenos if you can handle them. Cook in the oven until the cheese melts, then top with salsa and sour cream before eating – it’s the perfect type of dish to share with your flatmates!
Sausage traybake
Another one-dish oven meal: take a baking dish, and fill it with sausages, chopped potatoes, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Season with salt, pepper and herbs, and roast until everything is cooked. This is the perfect hearty meal for cold winter evenings, too.
Pesto pasta
It’s true what they say, pasta is a lifesaver for students. There’s so many different ways to enjoy it – for this one, cook your pasta and run a few tablespoons of pesto through it. Cherry tomatoes and spinach go great in this one, and it’s something else you can add pre-cooked chicken too for protein.
When it comes to quick and easy student recipes, you want things that will fill you up but don’t take time away from your busy schedule. Between studying, socialising, exercising and catching up on sleep, it’s important to find a key rotation of meals that fit this criteria. Pasta, cheese, tinned foods and frozen veggies are all great things to keep stocked up for speedy meals you can enjoy!
