Café culture is rapidly expanding – who doesn’t love a sweet treat, an iced coffee and some time to catch up with friends, peers or even yourself? From solo study dates to birthday breakfasts, the excuses to visit a café are absolutely endless! Luckily, Gloucester has some lovely cafés to visit; if you’re new to the area and living in our Blackfriars Residence, here are some of our favourite picks!
Café Rose, Severn Road
This family-run independent is located just a six minute walk from Blackfriars, and has a varied menu serving everything from homemade curries to white chocolate shakes. Dog-friendly in case your family pooch is visiting for the weekend, the coffee is also top-notch and the ambience is delightful.
Bake & Brew, Llanthony Road
Around a 10 minute walk from Blackfriars, Bake & Brew is a lovely rustic coffee shop which serves great coffee as well as brilliant breakfasts – the veggie breakfast is a particular recommendation on the menu so if you are a vegetarian, it’s well worth checking out. From salads and smoothies to brownies and pork & chorizo sausage rolls, there is plenty of choice available!
The Scandinavian Coffee Pod, Commercial Road
Located right on the docks, The Scandinavian Coffee Pod is just a two minute walk from our Gloucester student accommodation. This espresso bar is perfect for those who are really into coffee so if that sounds like you – if you study best running on caffeine – then this is definitely one to check out.
Comfy Pew Café Bistro, College Street
A beautifully traditional café in a stunning 14th century listed building just a five minute walk from Blackfriars, very close to the cathedral – the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat after exploring some of the cultural side of the city. From scones and pots of tea to breakfasts, bagels, omelettes and much more, there is plenty to choose from and they even do full afternoon teas for groups too!
Café 72, Southgate Street
With really reasonable prices, this is a very student-friendly café in Gloucester – just a few minutes walk from Blackfriars Residence, too! Offering all the usual cakes, sandwiches, coffees, jacket potatoes and more, this is one of the best cafés in Gloucester for stretching your student budget while still being able to enjoy a little treat.
There are plenty more cafés in Gloucester if you’re looking for somewhere to relax, study, or hang out with friends and flatmates. The city is thriving when it comes to places to eat and drink, and this is just a handful of some of the very best!
